I've been browsing around for fabric online. The only fabric store I know of in Reno is Joannes and it's pretty expensive. t-shirt material runs between $5 to $10 there, which is ridiculous in my opinion, not to mention specialty fabrics like spandex or silk dupiani, which at Joannes is $10+ a yard, but I find between $4 and $8 online. However, is it worth buying it online if it's going to kick me with $10 shipping fees? I'm not going to need to buy in bulk. I'm pretty sure 3 yards or so will be enough fabric for me to do all my costuming and home decor needs.

Do you know of any online places I can get both simple and specialty fabrics fairly inexpensive without such exuberant costs for shipping fees?

I might not be of any help, but here's what I was able to dig up:

http://www.fabric.com/  -- has some fabrics for under 1.95/yard, shipping for 3 yards of a random fabric was $4
https://www.fabricmartfabrics.com -- had a bunch of fabrics, but requires you to sign in to checkout, so i couldn't check shipping.
https://www.fashionfabricsclub.com
-- Most fabrics looked like they were about 5-ish/yard. Shipping for purchases under $25 is $7

Also check out: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&hs=RsI&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&q=carson%20city%20smiths&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl
There are fabric stores dotted all over the place in reno and carson, here's a reno search. We have a mill-end fabrics down here in carson, too. I didn't think their prices were terrible last time i went there. (though, i didn't buy much and it was a long time ago, so don't quote me. >_>; )

Mill end here has decent prices, not as good as online, but enough to make it not worth the trouble of mail ordering. They have plenty of selection, especially for upholstery fabrics.
